Kids are the most active members of our families, and they suffer musculoskeletal injuries, just like adults.

However, since children are still growing, their bones have growth plates which often differentiate their injuries from ones suffered by adults. Children also face a variety of musculoskeletal conditions that could affect their development later in life.

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance provides specialized attention focused on the unique differences in each child’s body.

Our board-certified, fellowship-trained pediatric orthopedic physicians and surgeons are highly experienced in their respective fields and are considered among the top orthopedic providers in the Midwest.

Along with our physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and support staff, Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance physicians deliver the utmost level of dedicated care across a range of subspecialties. While diverse in background and capabilities, the common thread that brings all of our team members together is our patient-centered approach.

For Any Condition. For Every Body.

What We Treat

01/05

Our Process

The process begins with an initial appointment, the length of which varies based on your child’s condition.

More complex issues will require more time with the physician, especially if your child has multiple musculoskeletal conditions.

02/05

Our Process

When you and your child visit one of our orthopedic pediatric physicians, your child will undergo a detailed evaluation of the injured area and a corresponding physical examination.

Diagnostic testing is often utilized as well to determine the correct diagnosis.

03/05

Our Process

Our patient-centric approach means we conduct individualized tests and studies based on your child’s physical examination. Tests may include:

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Digital X-Ray
  • Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
  • And Other Medical Technologies

It is always our goal to take a conservative, evidence-guided approach to the management of pediatric orthopedic conditions. For each child, we focus on comprehensive treatment plans that promote healthy development and growth while reducing pain and other symptoms.

04/05

Our Process

If surgical management is necessary, we will have a thorough discussion to ensure that this is the best method for treating the adolescent orthopedic complaints.

05/05

Our Process

Throughout the treatment and recovery process, we focus on creating outcomes that maximize your child’s function so he or she can return to regular activities.

Our physicians will align their management recommendations with your and your child’s goals.

Since we tailor our treatments to each individual, two kids with the same diagnosis may undergo two different management plans.

How It Works

Treatment Options

Physical Therapy

The best pediatric orthopedic plans typically include a referral to a physical or occupational therapist to help regain range of motion, decrease pain, and increase strength in the affected area. A child’s body adapts and heals through movement, especially when guided by a trained musculoskeletal expert. Physical therapy may also help with mobility challenges caused by developmental conditions.

Casts & Braces

For fractures, sprains, and strains, casts or braces help stabilize the injured area to promote healing. Specifically with fractures, more conservative measures like casting and bracing are the preferred choice of treatment.

Prescription Medications

Your child’s physician may recommend over-the-counter or prescription medications to reduce pain, muscle spasms, inflammation, and more. This will depend on your child’s specific needs, symptoms, and other factors surrounding your condition.

Orthopedic Surgery

Kansas City Orthopedic Alliance’s physicians only recommend surgical intervention when we have exhausted all other conservative measures, or it is apparent the only available solution is surgery. This is always a collaborative decision. It’s important you feel empowered to make the best decision for you and your child, with your goals and timelines in mind.
